The photographer at work... by Liz Amis
This is an online portfolio featuring my digital photography. Some
of the subject matter is found around Stanford-le-Hope, where I live,
and also down at Leigh-on-Sea, both of which are on the Essex bank
of the Thames estuary in England. Other locations such as London,
Paris, Amsterdam, Brugge and Gent that I visit on my travels are
also featured.
Coastal, estuary and marshland themes have tended to dominate my
work to date, with the Thames estuary featuring a lot. I find
the bleakness of the estuary holds a certain fascination for me.
Sometimes I'll try and extract the hidden beauty that can be found
in the area with use of the right light, along with cropping of the
image, to cut out the power lines, smokestacks, cranes, silos and
all the other industrial and post industrial detritus. At other
times, I'll give you the bleakness and sheer ugliness of the area
exactly as it is!
